Belgium’s long and rich cultural and artistic heritage is epitomized in the paintings of Pieter Bruegel, the Elder, Jan van Eyck, Hans Memling, Dieric Bouts, Peter Paul Rubens, René Magritte, and Paul Delvaux.
That rich heritage makes it an artistic centre of considerable importance. The paintings of the Flemish masters are on display in museums and cathedrals across the country; Belgium’s contribution to Art Nouveau is clearly evident in the Brussels cityscape, and folk culture is kept alive in a variety of indoor and outdoor museums.

Marc de Groide, who uses the pseudonym Michetz, is a Postwar & Contemporary artist who was born in Ixelles, Belgium in 1951.
Marc Michetz is fascinated by martial arts. Apart from practicing them, he devotes his entire comic oeuvre to them. He began his career at the studios of Jean Graton. In 1979, he created his first two comic stories featuring samurais: ‘Mutsuro’ in Tintin and ‘Hito le Banni’ in Spatial. He went on to create the medieval samurai series ‘Kogaratsu’ with scripts by Bosse in Spirou in 1983. In addition, Michetz published a portfolio about Japan at the publishing house Ansaldi, and he even appeared as a character himself in ‘Le Gang Mazda’, by his friends Christian Darasse and Bernard Hislaire. In 1990, he teamed up with Yann to start the series ‘Tako’ at Glénat.Huberty & Breyne, Brussels featured Marc Michetz’s work in the past.
Marc Michetz’s work has been offered at auction multiple times. Among the artist’s sold works is “On the White Linen”, which realized 510 USD at MJV Soudant in 2022.
